The premise is deceptively simple. Jess (played with a haunting, detached brilliance by Melissa George), a single mother dealing with an autistic child, joins a group of friends for a day trip on a yacht. When a sudden, violent storm capsizes their boat, they are rescued by a massive, eerily empty ocean liner. From the moment they step onto the ship—whose name, Aeolus , nods to the Greek mythological keeper of the winds—the rules of reality are suspended.
Unlike many time loop movies where there are only two "versions" of a character interacting, Triangle implies there are constantly three or more distinct phases of Jess on the ship at the exact same time, each acting on different levels of information.
Horrified by her own behavior as a mother, the "escaped" Jess kills her abusive past self, packs the body into a car trunk, and drives away with Tommy to start a new life. However, on the road, she hits a seagull, distracts herself, and gets into a catastrophic car crash with a truck.
